Dr. Tautz is specialized in conducting patent examination proceedings at the EPO and the German PTO and advises his clients on the establishment of comprehensive portfolios of industrial rights. Likewise Dr. Tautz represents his clients in opposition proceedings for validity reviews of own and third-party patents. A further main focus of Dr. Tautz’s practice lies in providing expert opinions on the legal validity and infringement of industrial property rights, as well as in freedom-to-operate opinions.
Besides his technical qualification as a physicist, Dr. Tautz is registered as German patent attorney, European patent attorney and European Design- and Trade Mark attorney. Dr. Tautz has been working exclusively in the area of intellectual property since 2013.

Physics studies at University of Regensburg; PhD in physics (Dr. rer. nat.) in the field of photonics and optoelectronics with the topic “Charge separation in organic photovoltaics” at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) within the cluster of excellence “Nanosystems Initiative Munich” (NIM); studies of law for patent attorneys at FU Hagen.
Registered as German patent attorney and European Trade Mark- and Design attorney since 2016; registered as European patent attorney since 2017.
Working experience in international IP law firms in Munich, the German PTO, the Federal Patent Court, a patent litigation chamber at a civil court in Munich; Scientific staff member at the Max-Planck-Institute of Quantum Optics for developing ultrafast high power Laser radiation sources; Guest scientist at the Center for Ultrafast Science and Biomedical Optics at Politecnico di Milano (Italy); Reserve officer in the German army.
